Pittsburgh Bar Crawl Guide

Three routes, zero planning stress, zero designated drivers needed (see the bottom of the page). Pick your crew, pick your route, and go.

The Guys' Crawl — South Side, Carson Street

Beer, sports on every screen, cheap shots, no cover, and nobody judging your fantasy football takes. Carson Street is the classic Pittsburgh crawl for a reason: a dozen bars within stumbling distance of each other.

• 8:00 PM — Smokin' Joe's (2001 E Carson St): Fuel up. 60+ taps, wings, burgers — the group dinner that happens to be a bar. Private upstairs party room if the crew is big.
• 9:15 PM — Mario's South Side Saloon (1514 E Carson St): The South Side institution. Games on, crowd loud, momentum building.
• 10:30 PM — Twelve Whiskey Barbecue: Whiskey + BBQ is a combination that has never once ruined a guys' night.
• 11:30 PM — White Eagle (2300 E Carson St): The dive stop. Cash-only, cheap drinks, flaming shots — the story you'll tell Monday.
• 12:30 AM — Late night: Capo's, Enclave, or Avalon to close it out. Dance floor energy for whoever's still standing.

Why it works for the guys: sports bars with screens, beer-first menus, dives with cheap shots, and no velvet-rope energy anywhere on the route.

The Girls' Crawl — Lawrenceville, Butler Street

Cocktails worth photographing, wine bars, a dance floor to end on, and not a single sticky-floor dive on the itinerary. Butler Street is Pittsburgh's cocktail corridor.

• 7:00 PM — Grapperia (3801 Butler St): Start classy. Italian cocktail and grappa bar — the espresso martini people rave about, dim lighting, great first-round photos.
• 8:30 PM — Bar Botanico (4325 Butler St): Plant-filled cocktail lounge. Try the "bartender's choice" — you name a spirit, they surprise you.
• 10:00 PM — Butler Street Derby (4203 Butler St): Drinks, dancing, big patio, group-friendly. The energy shift from sipping to moving.
• 11:30 PM — The Goldmark (4517 Butler St): DJ-owned lounge with real DJs nightly, frozen espresso martinis, and a connected speakeasy — The Confidant — for the nightcap.

Swap-in: Allegheny Wine Mixer (5326 Butler St) if the crew is more wine than cocktails — full bar, cheese plates, zero pretension.

Why it works for the girls: craft cocktails, photogenic rooms, dancing at the end, and every stop is walkable on one street.

The Mixed-Group Crawl — Shadyside & Squirrel Hill

When the group is couples, coworkers, or "everyone's invited" — something for the beer people, the cocktail people, and the "I just want a fun night" people.

• 8:00 PM — Mario's East Side Saloon (5442 Walnut St): Sports-bar comfort, rooftop deck, trivia nights — the easy first stop everyone likes.
• 9:30 PM — Le Mardi Gras (731 Copeland St): Retro cocktail lounge, strong classics, jukebox. The "oh, this place is cool" stop.
• 11:00 PM — 5801 (5801 Ellsworth Ave): High-energy bar with drag shows and late-night buzz — the wildcard that makes the night memorable.
• 12:00 AM — Hidden Harbor (1708 Shady Ave, Squirrel Hill): Tiki nightcap. Colorful, potent rum drinks in a beautiful room — the perfect last stop.

Why it works for mixed groups: every stop has both beer and cocktails, nobody's bored, and the vibe shifts every hour so the night never drags.

The rules that save the crawl

• One drink per stop. The crawl is a marathon — pace it or the night ends at stop three.
• Water between bars. Every bar on these routes will hand you water if you ask. Ask.
• One meeting point. Pick a hotel lobby or one house. Everyone starts together, nobody gets left at the restaurant.
• Bring cash. A couple of these dives are cash-only — don't learn that at the register.
• Decide the ride before the first drink. Not after the fourth.
